Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Summer, the maker behind Summer Joy Studio.

Pottery began as a creative outlet for me and quickly became something I truly fell in love with. There is something incredibly special about starting with a simple piece of clay and slowly turning it into something that can be used, loved and made part of someone’s home.

After a lot of dreaming, planning and hard work, I now create from my little backyard studio in North Carolina. It is a cozy, colorful space where I can experiment, learn and build this dream one piece at a time, usually with my Maltipoo, Kiwi, nearby supervising and waiting for treats.

What I Create

I create small-batch pottery inspired by flowers, gardens, organic shapes and the beauty found in nature.

My work often includes hand-carved details, soft textures, botanical elements and layered glazes that give each piece its own character. I love creating pottery that feels a little whimsical and unexpected while still being beautiful and functional enough to enjoy every day.

Every piece is shaped, carved, glazed and finished by hand. Because of that, no two will ever be exactly alike. The small variations in shape, texture and glaze are not flaws. They are part of the story and beauty of something made by hand.

Creating with Curiosity

One of my favorite parts of pottery is that I am always learning.

I love experimenting with new forms, carving techniques and glaze combinations and seeing how each piece changes throughout the process. Some begin with a clear idea, while others seem to develop a personality of their own along the way.

My style is continuing to grow with me, but I am always drawn back to the same things: flowing shapes, earthy layers, soft florals and the quiet beauty of a garden left a little wild.

Made for Everyday Joy

My hope is to create pottery that feels special without feeling too precious to use.

Whether it is a bowl shared around the dinner table, a vase filled with garden flowers or a small dish holding your favorite jewelry, I want each piece to bring warmth, personality and a little joy into your everyday life.
